AMA Youth Ambassador A.C. Glenn
My name is A.C. Glenn. I grew up in Memphis, TN under two very loving parents, one of which is a FedEx pilot and an avid modeler. I grew up going to a lot of Pattern/ F3A style contests with my father, helping him prepare and sometimes even being his caller and mechanic.
At a young age I was bitten by the bug of flying. I loved all aspects of aviation from full scale all the way down to the remote control side of flying.
I remember as a kid always going to the flying
field with my dad, and he would take me up with my trainer. We would only do repeated oval laps around the field. Personally, I wanted to do loops, rolls, and all the maneuvers I saw him do at contests, but we only concentrated on the basics. He always instilled in me to focus on the fundamentals of flying and that would help me succeed in the more advance flying. Around the age of 11, I began competing in my first contest. I ended up dead last in the contest but it didn’t stop me nor deter me in anyway. I pushed harder and practiced, and in the following year I won my very first Precision Aerobatics contest.
Since that first win, I have moved up in the Precision Aerobatic classes and have competed in 7 National Championships. I placed 2nd in the Intermediate Category, 1st in the Advanced Category, 4th in the Masters Category, and I placed in a number of different places in the FAI category, with the highlight being my 5th place finish this past year.
I also competed in 3 Electric Tournament of Champions (ETOC) competitions along with several other indoor F3P style events.
Along the way I have had many great mentors to keep me on the straight and narrow path with my flying including my father Albert Glenn, Quique Somenzini, Bryan Hebert, Andrew Jesky, Peter Collinson, Raiko Potter, and Mike McConville. Without the help of these people, I don’t know where I would be in the hobby today.
I have worked for companies such as Esprit Model and Hobby Lobby, and I am currently employed at Horizon Hobby. My sponsors include JR, Horizon Hobby, Hacker Brushless Motors, Castle Creations, Thunder Power Batteries, Flash Glue, and SB Models.
