Editor’s note The following was written by Christian (Chris) G. Timmins, III in 2017 for AMA Education Dept.’s Generations of Flight project. This was submitted to the AMA History Project in 2025. My father, Christian G. Timmins, was a naval aviator in 1942 for the U.S. Navy. His certificate of graduation hung on the wall beside the pictures of his mother and father. It was not until after my mother passed that dad began to open up to me and talk about some of his flights. His graduation certificate now hangs on the wall above my AMA certificate (dated March 1, 2003). Deep down I was always interested in building things from parts. Mr. Jimmy Bentley told me which plane to learn with - a Tiger Moth - which he built for me. I taught myself how to fly and I received the first electric flying certificate from the Red Stick R/C Flying Club on March 1, 2003. Mr. Raymond David was the head flying instructor.

Mr. Joe Culivan, a seasoned Red Stick member and WWII veteran, took his time to train me in flight procedures, safety, and in building kits. He had an aeronautical degree and patience with my mistakes.

Mr. Ken Taylor, an excellent builder, taught me the art of covering. [Included here] is a picture of Ken standing behind Joe and Nancy Wilson.

I thank the AMA for allowing me this time to share my success in this rewarding venture.
