Don Brown was born in 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. He was very active with Boy Scouts of America (Eagle with Palms, Order of Arrow, and Explorer Scouts). He didn’t play any sports and graduated from Lake Orion (Michigan) High School in 1951.
He was a naval air reserve during the Korean War in order to go to college. He served at Akron NAS and at Gross Isle, Michigan, with Corsairs.
In 1954, Don married and has eight children.
During the 1940s, Don was involved with some modeling, but stopped when he was in school. He worked for 13 years in job shops as a mechanical draftsman and retired from MichCon Gas as a processor operator.
In 1998, Don moved to Muncie, Indiana because of the flying field and started volunteering at AMA Headquarters a year and a half later.
