My interest in modeling started in high school, around 1952. I joined the AMA in 1953; my AMA number was 2903.
We used to fly at Pelham Bay during the summer. We walked to Central Park in the winter and flew there until we were chased off, but when you are 14 or 15, the police turned their backs a lot.
I moved to Jacksonville, Florida in January of 1970, and continued to build and fly Control Line models. I taught middle school and high school classes in Jacksonville for 30 years, retiring in May of 2002.
I was president of the Jacksonville Flying Rebels for two years in the late 1970s-early 1980s, formed the X-47 Flyers in October of 2000, and the Coastal Control Liners in August of 2002. I became a Contest Director in January of 2000.
I was appointed Contest Coordinator in June of 2001 and became an Administrative Leader member in June of 2002. For about the past five years, I have been a Contest Director for old Time and Classic Stunt events at the Nats.
