James Stewart of Missoula, Montana, was awarded $6,000 by the committee. He is a freshman studying Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University in Ames.

James has a diverse interest in model aviation. He has built and flown gas-powered and electric models, Radio Control Gliders, Helicopters, and Free Flight models. A member of the Big Sky Aeromodelers, he assists beginners and participates in various club meets and contests. First in his class at Sacred Heart High School in Missoula, Montana, James was involved in a variety of school activities. He was a member of the National Honor Society for four years and the Academic All-State Team for three years. He also was involved in the Student Government Association, the debate team, and the math and science clubs. His athletic interests included the track, cross country, and boxing teams. He was an Eagle Scout, and participated in the Annual Christmas Food Drive and VISION, a community service class that assisted the elderly.
