A Charles H. Grant Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 was presented to William Boenig of San Mateo, California. He graduated from Junipero Serra High School with a 4.0 grade point average, ranking first in his class.

He has entered Santa Clara University and is working toward a major in engineering physics with a minor in environmental studies.

William’s school and community service include serving as co-president of the National Honor Society, yearbook editor, vice president of Aviation Explorer Post 182, and a member of the San Mateo Youth Advisory Council.

Volunteer work at the Hiller Air Museum was also an important activity. At the museum, William helped with Free Flight events for children and model-building projects. His work experience has included serving as a Spanish/English translator, restoring a 22-foot sloop, and working at a pizza establishment.

In 1998, William established a model airplane company called Ariabat Radio Control Aircraft. The company currently manufactures foam Slope Gliders.

William came into aeromodeling through rocketry. A growing interest in model aircraft led him to an electric-powered sailplane. Eventually, he joined the Peninsula Channel Commanders. Through his work with the Aviation Explorer Post, where he served as vice president, William has helped with the construction of glow-powered trainers and has made several donated models airworthy.

He stated, “The possibilities of aviation’s direction in the future are unpredictable and amazing. I fully intend to apply everything I learn to those problems, which hinder aviation, transportation, and exploration today.

Our best wishes to William in future endeavors.
