William (Bill) Pisano of Longmont, Colorado received a $1,000 Charles H. Grant Scholarship. He graduated from Lyons High School as valedictorian of his class, excelling in academics and athletics.

Bill is attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, majoring in aerospace engineering. Bill provided more than 200 hours of community service, including working at habitat for Humanity, a soup kitchen, tutoring, a retirement home, neighborhood beautification projects, booster club, band tutoring, and church service. The town of Lyons named him Citizen of the Year.

Bill’s school activities included Student Council, National Honor Society, Odyssey of the Mind, school plays, National Thespian Society, and band. He was named Lyons Football Lineman of the Year, and was active in track.

During the past four years, he worked for the Boulder County Youth Service, building trails and planting trees. He also served as a software sales associate at Comp USA.

Bill’s first model was a foam Slope Soarer, followed by a .40-powered trainer. Others followed, including scratch-built airplanes. These required research in the field of aeronautical design. Whenever he is at the model-flying site, he helps the newcomers in an effort to “return the favor.”

The Academy offers its best wishes for a successful and productive future.
