Daniel W. Fee, Oceanside, California, has been awarded a scholarship of $6,000 to assist with his studies at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he plans a major in physics. He attained a 3.86 GPA and ranked sixth in a graduating class of 293 students. On his SAT tests, Daniel scored 600 verbal and 630 math.
During high school, Daniel became a life member in the California Scholarship Federation. He won the Bank of America Science and Mathematics Plaque and the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. He won letters in varsity track, marching band, and the Academics League. He was a soloist in the marching band, assistant section leader, and Academic League varsity captain. Drawing, painting, and computer-aided musical composition were among his other interests. Daniel was a member of his church youth group. The group’s social work included food service and shelter for the homeless and a building project in Belize, Central America. During the summer, he earned money working as an editorial assistant in a legal information office, putting in 15 to 20 hours each week.
When this was written, Daniel and his sister were to have been competing in the 1994 Junior Free Flight World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine. Both were members of the U.S. F1B Wakefield team. In recent times, he has been active in the LA/Orange County Thermal Thumbers Free Flight club while also belonging to, but being less active in, the San Diego Orbiteers and North County Clouds. Daniel has competed in numerous Free Flight contests at Taft and Lost Hills, which he attended along with his father and brother.
