David Hecht, from Hauppauge, New York, will attend the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. His award of $1,000 will help him as he pursues his major in biology and chemistry. An active high school career saw David on the Student Council for two years, and a member of both the National and French Honor Societies. He was also active on the ski team, the wrestling team, and the math team. He has studied music theory since the age of ten, and plays the organ for pleasure as well as in competition.
He has long been a dedicated volunteer at Smithtown General Hospital, devoting much personal time to this end and receiving high recognition from the administration for his friendly, courteous, and helpful manner. For the past five years, David has been a member of the Islip Model Airplane Club where he flew in fun flies and contests. He was one of the organizers of the club mall shows that helped gain good publicity for the club and the sport of model aviation.
